Here is the fun version…

digital-marketing-engineerHi, I’m Scott, a Digital Marketing Engineer.  For the past 10 years, I have enabled organizations to take advantage of the web to grow and evolve through their web presence and digital marketing. A lot has happened in that time…here is a walk down memory lane:

  • 1995 – Used Telnet (pre-Netscape use) to check Colorado ski area snow report. The internet instantly becomes cool in my book.
  • 1996 – Have the thought that web domains are like real estate.  Maybe I should buy a bunch.  Don’t act, which is why I still work.
  • 1997 – Can I just say Yahoo! Finance is the coolest thing ever. Look at all that free, easy-to-view data. Whoa.
  • 1998 – Dude, have you tried Google?
  • 1999 – Graduate with a degree in Chemistry.  Decide to toss it aside and jump into the web.
  • 2000 – Receive my first check for creating a website.
  • 2001 – Begin working as the Webmaster for two radio stations.
  • 2002 – Radio stations sold; and now there are four. Play an integral role in re-branding a forward-thinking radio station.
  • 2003 – Embrace content management systems. Teach staff of four radio stations to update websites, send e-newsletters and engage audiences online.
  • 2004 – Shift mindsets from the website is only for engaging audiences, to the website can generate advertising revenue and results for advertisers.  Look for the next big thing.
  • 2005 – Launch first podcast in Denver media (radio, TV, print) that features radio personality interviewing local musicians and playing their music. We are the one’s to watch. Step up to the corporate level to manage 33 radio and 13 television websites.
  • 2006 – Continue as Interactive Marketing Manager tasked with launching ~50 new websites for group of TV and radio stations, launching 20 streaming radio stations, enabling podcasting and blogging, putting local TV news video online for the first time, and building it as a business.
  • 2007 – Now Manager of Interactive Media Operations for the 33 radio and 13 television station websites.  We are one of the first in local media to launch a user-generated content photo/video website.
  • 2008 – Director of Product Development for ~120 local media websites (radio, TV, newspaper, online pure-plays). Launch two strategic incubator sites (community classifieds and super-fan sports site).  Pilot MMS with sports site.  Online revenue of 46 broadcast sites hits several $million, from nearly zero in ’05.
  • 2009 – Digital Sales Manager for one of the nation’s leading local TV station clusters, but, overly dependent on advertising. Market tanks. Time to reboot and dig deeper into the web’s potential.
  • 2010 – Work for an Agile SaaS B2B software company in a hybrid Webmaster marketing role.  Start consulting and somewhat humbly proclaim myself as the world’s first Digital Marketing Engineer.View Scott Rodgers's profile on LinkedIn
